The ENDURATECH motor, rated at 3 amps, uses brushless technology that reduces the number of wearable components by 71% - giving the motor 5-10 times longer life compared to traditional palm grip sander motors. Besides increased durability, the Low Profile Sander features two innovations for improved results: electronic load control and electronic motor braking. Electronic load control helps maintain pad speed by monitoring motor output and increasing power under load conditions whereas traditional random orbit sanders slow down as force is applied to the tool. Electronic motor braking stops the sander almost immediately - 73% faster than sanders during testing - so the user can safely set the sander down without waiting for the pad to stop. As for its unique shape, Porter Cable borrowed the low profile design of pneumatic sanders to leverage the ENDURATECH motor and reduce the tool's overall height. The lowered center of gravity places the users' hand 31% closer to the material being sanded for improved ergonomics and a smoother finish.

I purchased this sander to replace an older Porter Cable model of a similar orbital sander based on test rports I had read and concur it is the best of its class on the market. I do not use the attached dust collector; using instead my PC dust colector via its hose with excellent collection of dust. In use it prodces a surface without any swirl marks that show when finish applied. It is well balanced and easy to use. The attached dust collector might be handy if the sander is used away from the shop. This sander is well worth the money paid for it.
